Privacy Policy
ASCII Tree Generator is a tool that runs entirely in your web browser. We have designed it to work without collecting personal data, and this page explains what that means in practice.
Your files stay on your device
When you upload a folder or build a tree by hand, the files and folder names you choose are read and processed locally, in your browser. They are never uploaded to a server and are not transmitted anywhere. So that you don't lose your work, the tree you build is saved in your browser's local storage on your own device (see Local storage below), so it is still there when you reload the page or return later — until you choose to clear it.
No accounts and no tracking
There is no sign-up or login. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts, and we do not set tracking cookies. The app does not load fonts or other assets from third-party networks — the files it needs are served from this site.
Local storage
To keep your work and preferences between visits, the app saves the following in your browser's local storage:
- the tree you are working on — the folder and file names, their structure, and which entries are marked as ignored;
- your settings — ignore patterns, how ignored items are displayed, and the tree-style options;
- your light/dark theme preference.
This data lives only on your device. It is never uploaded or transmitted to us or anyone else, and it stays in your browser until you remove it — for example by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Because the folder and file names you enter are saved this way, avoid entering names you would not want kept on the device you are using, such as a shared or public computer.
Hosting
This site is delivered as static files by a hosting provider. As with any website, the provider may briefly process technical connection data such as your IP address in its server logs in order to deliver the pages and keep the service secure. We do not combine this data with anything else or use it to identify you.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app handles data changes — for example, if analytics were ever added — this page will be updated first. The date below shows when it was last revised.
